 Adobe Illustrator - All about Layers Panel - Class 13  :

Assalamualaikum, 

welcome to Tech Learning 4U.

I am your teacher Zohaib, and today i came with

a small but special class and this class is for

those Who are very afraid of the layer

i don't know why they are afraid of these layers, but believe me this

 is so easy

and you are so afraid of this layer

that..... ok i know

i know. In starting it was also confusion for me

but believe me it is so easy

so i thought that i will give you

a small class on it

where you will get clear it is not so frighten thing

this is not so frighten thing, it is very easy

and it will make your work so easy

In illustrator it is not a big issue or you can say problem ok

because we have vector objects here and

we have different parts of every objects

so we can use any object at any time in adobe illustrator

i mean even we can make our all objects (artwork) in one layer also

and we can also select every objects one by one

like you can say

but if you talking about Photoshop then

there are some issue on that but we will see and discuss

when we will learn Photoshop and yes at there we have to take

 layers because it is crucial there

and we have to take layers on Photoshop

but if you will not take layers here then also it will doesn't matter

so let come i will tell what are the

hidden things inside this layer panel

one more thing, the things which i will tell you may be possible that

 those people

who know this software they also don't know,

i am not saying that they don't know but may be they don't know

may be you people also learn new things today

so when we will come to illustrator and

then here is a panel where a small icon is given below

this is given in the second last number

and below this, it is your artboard but we are not discussing about artboards now

so let's talk about layers and when i click here

this panel open in front of us
one thing remember that if you open your last panel then this present panel will close
if you want to see your complete interface
neat and clean then that's ok
if you want to see your layer panel in front of you
then it is very simple, see here in the layer's panel there is tap in front of you
just click on that and drag and move it outside
so i am closing others and today we will
talk on about layers ok ,
what is layers ?
layer is nothing but just a stacking order
what is stacking order ? it is just one thing is placed over another thing
for example this is my hand and above it i am placing my second hand
and suppose i am putting my third hand also and so on
it is like layers is placing above another layers
this is known as stacks and layer are same like this
and if you make your own objects continuously
and you are taking new layer
and you are making next second object and again taking new layers
and you are making next third object and again taking new layers
And if you want then you can
hide any layers from these
or you can lock any of them
see here below two layers are locked
so
these two layers will not select nor move
only the unlocked object that is this
it is only moving here
ok i am unlocking these two also
as i said in the starting that
layers are not a big issue in the illustrator .but why ?
because if you will not take any layer then also your
all objects will be selected individually
and best thing about this that all boxes
which i made are present here
and i can select any of them and also i can change their position i mean can
move them in front and also i can place any of them in the last position
but how ? if you come in the layers panel then
there is a small arrow there and if you will click there
then you will have all the rectangles
which i made in the sequence order are visible to us
for example i am giving colors on them
so you will understand it more clearly
so i am closing this and taking my layer panel here
let say i am putting yellow color in this
and
i am putting green color in this
cyan and blue
and i am putting pink color in this
you can see this that
the position of all the objects that is who is in the top and who is in the below
exactly same thing is visible to you here
for example that yellow object which is now at the last and i want it to be at top position that in the front
so just click and drag and take it at the front
like this and this is on the top
it is not necessary that you have to the things from here only
you can also do like this just right click here and then go to arrange and then send to back
it will move to last and then right click and
then arrange and click on bring to front and it will come to top
but this arrange is done
when we are working on one layer only
now this is a group now and this design is finalized for my side
and till here all my works are complete and i want to make some work above it
so it will better that you take a new layer
correct and now i am locking this layer
because my work till here is completed
let me make some other object for example i am making an ellipse here
and here i am taking
little bit different colors and i made this and
this and
one more this. ok and when i
so these circles are made in the other layers
ok and you can lock them whenever you want or
you can unlock them also
these options are given for you and
you can hide them also by clicking on the small eye icon
and yes by clicking on the eye icon
it will hide and appear in front of you
and if you have many artworks here and you have many layers
then that time there is one big confusion that
that i have to select a object of a
particular layer
the problem on that if you select them like this then all
the data will select of all layers here
so we will do a small work here and see here
see in the end , let me zoom for you and now in this layer
there is a small circle made here
if you click on them then all objects of
that particular layer will be select
see this if i will move this then only this objects will move ok
so remember one thing that layers will make your work little bit easy
or it will make your work managed
and it will make your work
organised and it will definitely make your work easy
so don't panic with this
and one more thing whatever you will do then
there will be no explosion on your computer so please try it
there is no need of afraid or frighten
and see if i want this complete to come below
then simply i will select them and drag it to below
now this all are hidden behind it and now if you want to this to put it behind then simply drag it
and then send it to back
ok and now let me tell you something about layers
ok one thing from here we take new layers
i mean from this which is create new layer
ok for example you have many layers
and from them i want to see one thing that where it is located in the layer?
that where it is located in the layer?
see at the last there is a green box
and i simply clicked on it, right
then it showed me that this is in this layer
or this belongs this layer
ok
come below here you can see a magnifying glass icon is showing
and locate object is written here and if you click here
then it will show you by opening
it that where it is located
and when we will need this?
it will need when suppose
i just wanted to lock this only
see this is made inside this layer 1
which i want to lock and
now your all the layers are unlock except this layer
this is locked ok
and if i just only want to hide this and
then just click on the eye icon
Now it means that the objects which are made inside the layers are also
visible to you in different stacking orders, ok
ok one more work and now i am deleting this layer because we don't need this
and now we are working on one layer only
and you people had seen my masking class
which i taught you in my previous videos,
i believe that you had seen that video
here if we make some multiple object and
we take a another shape on them (i mean top object)
and then we select all of them and we do right click and click on make clipping mask
now it become a single object
ok now you have one more option in layers
that is masking i mean clipping masking options
ok in the same way,
i put some objects and here i put this object on the top
here is a small button given here and
let me show you again by zooming in for you guys
and make release clipping mask is written on it when we move our mouse on it
if you click on them then also it will give you results after masking
but the interesting thing is that it is not lock
and you can edit it
whenever you want
as it is done on layers so it will interact to one another such that you can edit it and these are not locked
you have to select them individually like this only
and these are not locked here or
you can say that these are not linked
so i hope till here you understand it
next here you have new layer and delete layer
you can select this layers from here
and you can delete it from here
and this will not delete now because you don't have
you have to take at least two layers then it will delete
ok anyways
and i want to take a new layer and i want to delete this complete layer
i clicked here and then i clicked here and it is deleted and next option is
for deleting this that
simply select this and drag this to here
then also it will delete
if you will do double click on any layer where it's name is written
then from here you can change it's name also
that is you can rename them also
so give any name to it
right, alright
plus if you double click on this place
then it will show you a panel
here you can give name to it
here you can change it's color
and whose color is this ?
see by default if you take new layer
or new image or new image
if you select anything
you see blue color
and you will see simple blue color selection
ok
and if you do not want this selection to be blue
then double click here and
from here you change your color,
and i said this earlier also
as it is related to layers so
i want to remind you again about this. Ok next
as i said you this small circle will select
overall content of your layer
ok
alright
and there are small things which i want to tell you
sometimes students says that sir i cant see clearly this layers and what is made inside that layer
we cant see them clearly
for this there is a simple way
see here is a flout buttons given
which shows some lines so click on it
it will show you overall menu and
in the last there is an option that is panel option
so click on it ok
from here you can make large your layer's thumbnail
simply make it large or
sometime we do others ,
see i am taking 80 pixels
and do ok and
this will show you a big thumbnail
there is no issue of visibility , this is very easy to see image of layers
but yes it will take some space on your screen
and it is up to you and right
remember one thing about cirlce
whatever circle you are clicking
you are selecting that particular content
if you want to select all the circles
then click on this small circle icon
it will select all the circles of this layer. Now
after panel option
one thing I said you in the mesh class that
if you click this eye icon along with Control key
then it will show you outline mode
this is now in the outline mode and
for example if you have also second layer
which have multiple objects
if you click on eye along with control key
then second layer's object option will look normal
only that will show you outline mode in which you clicked on eye icon along with the control option
but if you want to see your whole artwork in the outline mode
then control + Y is the shortcut
then it will show you outline mode
if by mistake control + y is pressed
by you then press again control + Y
ok
your things will be normal again
and i am deleting this upward layers
and next here are some more options
here i am not going to
discuss these all things but
but yes one more thing is that
which is very interesting
that is release to layers(sequence)
and release to layers (built)
see
want to make any artwork
lets say i am making a character
or anything ,
ok let me make a character
i had selected a simple circle
and
i had selected one rounded rectangle here
i am changing it's color
and i made one
like this
and
i made this one also
and i am sending this back
or i can do this in here also
and i am making my panel size smaller
i don't have habit of this big thumbnails
now i had selected this and
this is telling me that this is your selected
and i want take it below this image
and i did it simply like this
ok
and i am also making
it's two legs also
these legs are very thick so let me make their legs little bit thin
and i am changing its color darker
and i am taking these both in the last positions
or you can say at the last
ok
now i want this all things
to put in after effect software
or i want to take this at any software but
at that place i want this character's layer
but i did here that
i made this objects
in one layer only
but here i have different layers
but for taking this things in different layers you can do one thing that
you click this layer and select it and
click on flout button and you will get two options, release to layer (built)
and release to layer (sequence)
let's go for built
ok
and if you see layer 1, layer 2, layer 3, layer 4,
in each layer there is one objects are there
which are coming step by step, it have two and i
t have 3 things and it have 4 things
it have 5 things, it have 6 things, but
but this is not that thing which i want
so i am doing undo and remember that build will only
that it will build
your every object step by step
next we have option that is sequence and
what sequence will do is that
it will put
your all objects in a different layer
see this, this is here
this is here, this is here
and so on
if you see this carefully then this all layers are inside this layer and
this is the same layers which are present in Sublayer
don't worry and simply select all of them
simply i clicked here at first and
then i pressed shift key and then i clicked here
and then i hold all of them and dragged them in towards upward
and when you will drag it on upper side or toward upword
these all layers will be separated now
now we had taken all things in different layers
and if you want
then you can delete this layer
now this all things are in different layer
i hope till here you had understand
this is not a big tension, bus remember one thing whatever object you want to select just click on it
and one more thing that confusion of
you peoples that in which object belongs to which layer so
so please name this layers
for example this
i am giving its name right leg
ok , i am giving its name left leg
and this is
left arm
this is it's
body
and this is
it's
right arm
so remember one thing
i know many people find it difficult
to give the name of things in this layer
i had seen my student's work and
even they don't give
the name of files also
they became lazy to give the name properly but please
even if you don't give your file name properly then you will become worry for that only
if you don't do then how will you search file , if your hard drive have 10 thousands file and all names are untitled then
how will you search them but yes they have numbers but
how will you detect that particular file and what it contains
so whatever you are making just give the name of that , it will beneficial to you only
in the same way give the name of your layers also
if you have many layers please please give them names
right
this will very helpful to you
