Adobe Illustrator Class 10 Type Tool (Part 1} Tech Learning 4U :

I am your Teacher Zohaib and today we will learn about Type tool
now I am feeling fresh,
So let's start our class
so when you will come at your illustrator
then here you will see a "T" shape icon
see this T icon
this is your type tool and when you will click here

then your mouse cursor will show I shaped cursor
this is your text cursor
this is very common and you can see this in many softwares
so here you have 2 options
if you want to type one word or one line
then simply do one click here
In illustrator cc here you can see
lorum ipusm is written here
it is not visible at older version of Illustrator
it will only show blinking of cursor and what do you mean by Lorum ipsum ?
it is just a dummy text which don't have any meaning
so it is just a global standard for dummy text only
alright
and when i will start my typing here
This is text see here
when i typed here your cursor is blinking here
Let me zoom for you and
see your cursor is blinking here and here
it is showing that you can also type further if you want
but if you don't want to type further then you can do one thing that
just click on your selection tool
see it is became a text box here. Right
if you want to write 2 or 3 lines
then simply
click here
This is line
One
when you will complete your type then simply press enter
then you will type second line
This is line Two
so please don't do that
i mean if you want to type two or three lines
then do take many point text
so simply press enter in one point text and type further
the benefit of this is that they will remain all together as a single text box
and you can put it anywhere you like
there is no need to make them group
alright and if i have more text
or you can i have a paragraph
then we will do one thing that
instead of click we will do drag here
ok alright but
again you have illustrator CC
then it will give you dummy text automatically
and if will repeat once more that
this is the feature of Illustrator CC
which will give you automatically dummy text
if you are using old version of illustrator
then it will give you blank box like this
and if you want text then
i am telling you a website
lipsum.com and when you will open this
see here it will ask you how many paragraph you need ?
and you have to type the number of paragraphs you need
and then click on generate button
now here you lorem ipsum is generated
let us i am selecting this
and i am doing copy of it
so we came back to our illustrator and
simply paste it on the box by pressing control + V
ok
now if you see it carefully
you have a complete paragraph now
we will see the details of these after some time
but now i am going again to
my point text
so if i will type
point text
some important things i want to tell you that
if i want to increase it's size
yes you can do this by bounding box
but for the god sake don't do like this
this is the worst action
in the field of typography so don't do like this
Don't stretch your text, so you don't
have to do like this or like this
so for the god shake don't do like this
please don't do it , i am requesting you
ok then what we will do ?
if you want to make it larger then do it by pressing shift
i mean drag it by pressing shift key
it will increase it's size very easily as well as proportionally
right and you can do like this also
and if you want to increase
according to font size

these are different writing styles
for now i can say this these
are different designs of your text
and one more feature in illustrator CC is that when you will
move your mouse in this
it will show you by changing fonts
i want to tell you one more things that
these fonts are those fonts which are installed in my system
it may possible that you also have different fonts or
may be same fonts
so check it and how to install fonts, I will tell you Insha allah

so you will get the idea how to use text

if you select whatever fonts
if you it then your text will come here ok
i am taking some different font
let say i take this font
ok now if you will see this then
this is your
different styles
ok so what are styles ? so remember that
for Example i am taking so simple font that is areal
This font is well known to you guys
here some types are written that is Regular, bold, bold Italic
and black
these are installed along with your fonts
so don't think that
these are present with each and every fonts
these are installed with all your fonts
these styles are not available with all your fonts
as i was using Museo and
you can see it have different styles
and if i will use some other fonts and
it may possible that it only contains Regular and Bold styles
it don't have italic so check it that
if you fonts have these styles
then only it will show it otherwise it will not show
some fonts don't contain any styles,
see this it is regular only
listen carefully these styles are not the features of illustrator
this are just the part of your fonts
these are different fonts installed at your system
let me show you ,if you click on , if you open Run in your windows and
type fonts then
ok let me search Arial here
alright if you see Arial it is a folder
if you do double click then you can see
Arial black , Arial bold
Arial bold italic, Arial italic and Arial regular
so if these font were not present here
then it will show only one font on illustrator
so if will show Arial again here
see you have all those fonts which are available there
That are regular italic 1,2,3,4,5
so if you will come here again
then you can see 1,2,3,4,5
so remember that these are installed fonts
there is no fault of illustrator
if any font is not showing you italic or bold styles
so please don't take tension about this
In equal to this you have font size
you can change your font size from here also
usually i don't use it from here ,
see here is a character panel here
from here you will have more details
if you want this panel then go to your windows menu bar
and then see here below that is type
and in type you will find character
and just click on it and one more thing you can see it's shortcut that is control +T
and if you simply press control + T
this panel will open separately in front of you
some extra features are also available
if you press it show option from here
ok now i have to teach you what are the use of these options
first of all you have touch type tool
if you see carefully which is also
here inside the type tool here below you can see this
when we will reach here i will definitely tell you about this
but for now just see this
here you have fonts name and
you can choose any fonts by selecting it and use them
make sure that your text is selected and
alright for example
we had chosen this text
right
it is little bit strange
ok we are using Arial
then you can see styles
i mean if i want to do Italic
or i want to do bold
alright next you have
font size, you can change your font size from here
i mean with the help of this arrow you can make it larger or smaller
or you can type it by yourself for example i want
200 points
when i will press enter it will became larger
alright one more interesting thing if
you make your font small like this then
then automatically your font size
will become small by itself
so remember one thing that i am doing it by pressing shift
don't do it without pressing shift
otherwise it will look ugly and disproportionate
next you have
Leading here
Tracking and Curning
i will tell you about leading after some times but first understand about tracking
so what is tracking ?
Tracking is spacing between characters
you can increase as much you like
so remember that you are not do this spacing by spacebar
if you want to increase spacing
just simply increase it by increasing your tracking
you can increase tracking as much as you like
for example i am putting 900
it will us like this
alright now
i am doing it normal i mean putting it's value zero
what do you mean by leading ?
leading is space between lines
let me take the same paragraph which i used earlier
so i make you understand about this
see this is a paragraph in front of me
and if i increase my leading then
see the space between lines
this is known as
leading
if you decrease it's value
it will overlap each other like this
you can see this that all are overlapped each other which is looking like
it will be far better that if you select auto for this
it's reason is that it's size is 14 point
and if i increase it's size then
you can see it here 14 points or you can see 16.8 here
let me zoom in for you
so you can see it clearly
so now it is 16.8
and if i check it's font size then
it is now 14
ok
if i put a fixed value here
for example i put it 18 here
and now if i increase my font size then
remember it that it will remain 18 only
that's why i said you to put it in auto mode
it will adjust it automatically
some times we have to do that
we have to take some
specific Leadings
next we have kerning here
kerning is different thing
same like you have
tracking
In tracking if you increase your spacing
then all the space between
alphabets will increased
so if we come here and see what we mean by kerning then
first of all see our text is selected now
and if we come here and see
all values are now disabled
you can not select anything except
optical
or metrics
or zero
we don't put zero
because see the space between our alphabets sometimes it look strange
i mean space between characters
looks very odd
we use it when we are making or typing something big such as heading
or if we want to type some text
like body copy the text below the heading
we use it optical for this purpose
it looks great
but if
we have any heading and it is a big size text
see if we put zero here see it is looking something odd
see the space between T and e is very large
and here and here are same type of space
i mean almost same space are given here
i want to decrease the space between T and e
and if I do optical here then it will make it good as much as possible
but i think it need more close or inside
for this you do one thing that take your type tool
or click in the middle of this and this cursor will remain here
and now you can adjust your kerning
see now it's value is
showing - 113 already
if you want to decrease it more than
i am doing it less by mouse scroll
this is your kerning
kerning is space between two character
alright and one more small thing which i want to tell you that,so here you have

it is showing two sizes
one is your vertical scale and second is your horizontal scale
and as i said you earlier that if you stretch like this
it will look very ugly ,bad and disproportionate way
right and so please don't stretch your text and
if you did it by mistake just check it from here
if both of them are not 100 %
then please make it 100 % and if you want to stretch then
you can do it here are some options given here
i don't know why we will stretch or for what purpose..
so please don't stretch it because i will not allow you do this
and some how if you did stretch
then you can adjust it also
just check it that both the values are 100%

also see this also(left side)
this is your vertical scale and
this is your horizontal scale
please put the both the values in 100%
ok
next option which is coming here is
set the base line
what is base line ? you can do one thing is that if you do double click
so you can select like this
and see here is your base line
of i change my base line then
see this S will move below
and
if you want to move it above then you can move it upward also
this is your base line
so usually we put this in zero
second thing you have is rotation
it will rotate the text or character
( selected text or character)
it is not necessary that only one character will rotate,
if you want then you can rotate the range i mean complete word
if you select this by your selection tool then
it will give you rotation of all the texts
obviously
it is looking strange
this options are given here so use it when ever you need
ok come below
see all caps are given
see here i typed Test in which T is capital
and others are small letters
if i want to do all the characters in capital then i don't need to type it again
i will just click on all caps then it will change my texts in capital
remember one thing this options will be visible to you
when you will click show options from here
so open your character panel and go here and click on show options
then it will show all the options to you
so i am putting both of them in 100 %
i had changed something at that time so that's why i am making this 100 %
alright
this button will simply make all your text into capital letter ok
see E is looking very akward
when it was small it was perfect but now it is not looking good
so i am simply putting this in optical
and here in the below you have second option that is
small caps
small caps will do that it will make all the characters in capital but
it will convert small characters
into capital
but it's size will be smaller
this is another good options
ok next options which is coming in front of you is
super script
for super script i want to
you to remember some small thing
a2 +2ab
+
b2
right usually algebra is learned by everyone during their childhood
and this formula i hope everyone
is familiar with this formula
and i want this both 2 to become power
so simply i selected both of them
and
i clicked here
so it become superscript
ok
so i put this here
and near equal to this is subscript
so remember onething that whenever you will do superscript
by default
this button will remain on always
so whatever you will type
it will automatically show in superscript mode
so please turn it off so you will get normal text
so what subscript do ?
and if you want this two to come below
so you can do this from here

alright, this is your subscript
if you want to underline this then press this button and
if you want to cut this
from bottom/middle then press this button
so we don't use this button
but if you want to use it then you can use
then next you have anti aliasing
i will tell you about this in very detail manner
through photoshop
because here we don't have so much work on this
so i am doing
raster preview
so from there you will understand this better
see i clicked on view and i clicked pixel preview
pixel preview is that thing which shows you that if your art will become raster then how will it look like
see from here we can see different different objects
it will show you how it will do smooth out of your Arts
ok if i will increase my texts
and now if you see this after zooming in then
if you do nun then it will look very jagged
what is anti aliasing ?
it will smooth the edges
so remember one thing that pixels are square and
if we make it in circular or cylindrical shape it will make stairs like this
ok
for adjusting this things the Technic
used is called anti aliasing
This is Written AA , which is anti aliasing
and here you have different methods
sharp , crisp and Angstrom
use which you is better for you
but at least don't do nun
it will look very bad
so i usually used sharp
so remember one thing if you are watching pixels and
i mean if you made something
and you are saving it
and you are exporting it into Jpeg format
and jpeg is not a vector jpeg is raster image
and png ,jpeg etc this all are raster image
definitely your text will look like this
just check once which type of results you want
at least don't go for this type of results
alright and i am taking sharp option from here
and i am coming back from our pixel preview

this will not show any difference in illustrator

as we understand this things now
let me tell about touch type tool
remember one thing that you can excess this from here as well as
you can excess this from inside the type tool options
that is at very last option inside the type tool panel
one more thing
this touch type tool is included in the Illustrator cc
this is not in the older versions of illustrator
what is the purpose of it ?
same things which we have studied in this panels
so just select your text
and when you clicked this
then you can clearly see that in your cursor
a indication is coming that you are using touch type tool
what is the work of it. You can
manually adjust individual alphabet
what types of adjustments we can do ?
if you want to move it yes you can
or
even you can make it larger also
from here i mean from top right corner
remember one thing that this is doing proportionally
i didn't pressed any shift here
if you come here then you can decrease it"s height
or if you come here then you can decrease it's width
automatically it will adjust all the things itself
if i will click on any character
and i want to
change it's kerning
then you can do like this but i will suggest you if you just want to change only kerning then
i am doing reset to all the changes that i applied here
from here i am doing optical
i am adjusting scale
and everything ok
now i put everything in normal
if i want to change the kerning of e then you can do one thing that
just click on the e
and now move this from the arrow key button of your keyboard
i am not favour of doing this with your hand (mouse) here
if you will do this with your mouse then
it will be dis balanced because here not shift button will work
but if you will press shift
then also you will not get any benefit of that
so if you want to adjust your kerning then just select it and
then use arrow keys of your keyboard
to move your text or alphabet
i hope till here you people will understand
the overall character panel

now come here you will get paragraph panel
so this panel's function will show on paragraph
so i am making a paragraph
and now you can see that
all the settings of character is showing here
i mean all the fonts etc are showing here
so from here we will change the settings
so i am taking our text size
little smaller
ok
and
one thing is that now subscript mode is on
just turn it off, that's why it was looking strange so anyways
if i will select all of these
and i am decreasing my font size
14 and
just see what you have in
your paragraph options
first of all you have here that is alignments
it is not necessary to select this
you can do one thing simply that just select this box
see this left , center and
right, these are your alignments
then you have justified option here
and then justified with last line align left
see last line is aligned to left side
if i will do this then
it will come to center and this will come to right
and this will align the overall paragraph
even it will justify a small line also
i hope you peoples know it very much about this
because it is already there in Ms office
if you used word and power point then you know it very well
this options are available there
next you have is indent
left indent and what do you mean by left indent ?
if you increase this then you can see
your paragraph is moving from left to forward direction that is towards right side
ok now i am doing this zero and i am telling a interesting thing about it
see this paragraphy
what do you mean by paragraph?After pressing enter it will show you next paragraph
till your paragraph is not changing then don't press enter
press enter only
when you want to change your paragraph
so see here and i pressed enter here
now you have a second paragraph here
and if remaining in this paragraph i
f i will increase my indent
let suppose i increased it 50 points
then it will move 50 points towards forward direction
similarly if you want to right indent then you can do one more thing that
from here
you can increase this also
this paragraph is used to indicate sub points usually
this is known as or called as left indent
from here it is known as right indent
if you come at next paragraph
see here you will get option that is
first line left indent
so if i increased it 50 points
alright
see only first line is moved towards forward
ok let me do one thing that is
let me turn off this indents so that
you will net get confused
ok this is your first line
is applied indent
usually many peoples used this in handwriting text also
whenever we change
our paragraph then we left some space
this is first line left indent
now you can see that our text is looking very bad now
all the paragraphs are very near to each other
so you can do one thing that
just select the overall box and see here
you have an option here that is space before paragraph
and second you have is space after paragraph
so if will give value 6
in my space before paragraph
see very small 6 point gap you can see here
if you want more than increase it more
so for example i am doing it 20
ok see here now we can see 20 points gap here
in every paragraph and i usually
do before paragraph because
even i will do after paragraph then also same things will happen in my work
so i usually
put same value in it
lastly if you see here dash in the lastin some words ,
and you also know that if your line will end
but if your word is not completed then easily we can use dash
and you can continue from below
i mean other lines you can write after your dash lines
see here if you don't want these dash
and you want that whole word will come below
just unchecked the hyphenate
now this is unchecked now and your
hyphened is removed now
and all the dashes are removed now
actually this is something long topic
and many people ignored this
inside this type tool very small tools are also present
which we will also do in the next class but
but i had taken a small decision that i will stop this class till now
definitely i will come with
part 2 about this topic
and further tools inside this type tool panel will be discused by us tomorrow
we will explore it in next part
believe me very interesting things also available here
one more thing is that
if you didn't use your text properly
then you had did
very bad thing
see many time you meet many peoples and you think that
they are very decent , gentleman , Elegant and very good personality
and when they speak then you say oh my god what was that
how he is talking , all the personality became waste
in the same way your design is beautiful
but your text is not properly used
exactly same thing will happen to your design
see what was happened with that person
his personality was very good from head to toe
but his communication way was very bad
ok in the same way your design
may be beautiful but if you don't use proper text then you can not communicate
or see one thing that
your design is talking through with your text
and if your text is not properly used then
it is waste
it will make your overall design a waste
it will down or zero personality of your design
so i am giving it a little bit more importance
i am stopping this class till now and i am thinking that
we will have two parts.In one part
we will do our remaining tool
third part will be most important because we will do some theory on typography
i will make some designs definetely
from it you can learn many things from it
that is how to use fonts or how not use it.
