 Adobe Illustrator - Artboard Tool and Settings - Class 18 - Tech Learning 4U :

Assalamualaikum, 

welcome to Tech Learning 4U

i am back with my new class, this is

class no 18

this is very important class

it is small but it is very useful art boards

we have artboard tool

this class is regarding art board, you can say it page also

there are some options which i want to tell and also very important for everyone

let's start .

I am taking a new file

or you can press control + N

remember that if you are working for any specific size

then you have to put the value of that specific file

it will better

so you can work with better proportion

simply i am taking a letter size

with portrait orientation. Now i am clicking this

this document which is visible in front of you is your art board

yes, you can change your artboard setting also

it is not necessary that you have to change during new file

you can change it later also

for example this is very simple work

this is your artboard tool and when you will click here

around your artboard a small bounding box will come

just like crop tool of photoshop

you can resize your artboard like this

now your artboard is like this size

which you are watching in the screen

if i will show you 100 %, so this is your 100 % size

so if you see here these are

some presets sizes

so you can simply

resize or change your artboard from here also

i mean you can select this from here also

if you want any custom size

then come here this is your width and this is your height

so whatever size you want

you can give here

this was no 1 and no 2 you have artboard names

you can also give name from here

yes if you need then yes you can name them also and

this is very interesting

move or copy with artboard.So if

you have any artwork

in your art board

if you move your artwork

with your artboard

then it will move

but

if you off it then your artboard will move but there will be no movement of artworks

correct, so make sure this will be always clicked

2nd thing if you want to make a copy of artboard

with or without artwork

then here it will very helpful for you

sometimes we need artwork with artboard so

we press (shift + O ) in keyboard or we take artboard tool

when you will drag with pressing alt

and i pressed shift also so it will not move up and down

by pressing shift if you copy this then it will copy but

if remove this and then i will take a copy see

it will make a copy of same size artboard but without artwork

here name is showing artboard1

and you can give any name to it

you can change it's name from here

remember one thing that when i did copied of this

no art work copied here with the artboard

because i had off this button

let me zoom in to show you clearly

this is very strange button something like a vehicle

i don't know but leave it ,

just remember that this button must be on, so when you will copy

the artwork will aslo

copy or move with it

if you will come here then it will show center mark

if you on this then

in your screen, ok let me zoom in for you

ok

there is a green center mark is visible in the middle

if you need this then

you can use it

we don't use this but if you are making anything such as film and TV related work

ok i am changing this art board

into Pal/ D1

and

i am taking horizontal

this is our Pal Size

if you will see this

788 by 576 this is standard size of Pal (in our Pakistan)

this is our standard broad caste,

i am not talking about HD

generally it is 768 but

as our illustrator has square pixels

and those TV pixels has different ratios

like 4/ 3 ratios

and our computer has 1/1 pixel ratios

that is square ratios

so square pixel which is 788 pixel

or points is also equal to

television's 768 pixels

but this is not our topic now

anyways now we are doing this

and we have some more options

that is art board options, sorry i want to tell you one more thing

if we take Pal etc then these things works on it

these are safe zones

time save , action save and

i am not discussing

about anything related to videos but i just want to tell you that

sometimes we do motion graphics work on

after effects and maximum

we design our artworks

and we put it there ( after effects)

for that purpose we need this details

that's why these are given to us

let's come back to our print size part

let select letter size

here you have artboard options

artboard option will come here also

and second if you double click in artboard tool

then also it will come

these are same things you can do it wherever you want

you can give name , size change

and you can change it's orientation also. Constraint proportion

It's benefit will that if you on this

when you will change your width

then height will also change with it

right anyways

it's up to you if you want to use it

if you come below then there are some options such as show center marks,

show cross hairs, show video safe areas

these are all those things which we had seen here

see here there is a global setting

Fade region outside the art board

if you remove this which i will not favour

but if you remove this

and let me come outside artboard By pressing V key in keyboard

and when again i will come in artboad then outside region will look like this

instead of grey it will show white

it looks little confusion

but if you like it then you can use it

ok i am turing on this and pressing ok and i am pressing V and then again

pressing shift + O for making art board tool active

then your grey area will come back again

this is reference point means

where is your reference point

these optionss are same which was in transform panel

so if i am increase the width or height

smaller or larger

let say

i am doing uncheck

and i am just increasing width then see both are increasing

and if i put my reference point here

then it will creasing from right hand side

not in the left hand direction

i hope you understand this

and till yet these all things became well known to you all

remember that

i mean reference point will is similar to transform panel

right

that's it , we have these things in our artboard

but now artboard related some interesting things

for example

i made this artwork

and i want my artboard to convert into the artwork's size

so the solution is very simple

select your artboard tool

and

and you have to double click on the shape or artwork

when you will double click here it will change into artwork's size

now when it is used?

sometimes students asked us that sir we had made artwork but

extra area of that is also coming with my saved file

and we want only artwork not the side area

so

it's solution is very simple

so whaterver artwork you made

ok let me make some artwork for you

ok let me make some small stuffs , i am making a polygon

ok and actually what i want to do is

i want to convert this polygon

into flower

simply we have an effect Distort and transform

and inside this a option is given

Pucker and bloat and i am simply doing it bloat

see this it is a interesting flower now

ok let's give it some colour

and i am also giving some background of it

ok

i am doing

send to back

i selected dangerous type colour so

let me select better colour

let say purple and here i want some

like this colour

so this is our artwork with background

remember that

we have background here and this background is

that whose size i want ( my artboat's size also)

i mean i want to make background size same as my image's size

see if i save as it is by pressing

control+alt+shift+ s

then see extra area is coming outside

and if i select Jpeg then white area is coming

ok and i want

my artboard will be the same size as my artwork

so this is very simple work

select your artboard tool and double click on your background

if now you will save this then it will save perfectly, edges are perfect now

means no side area will come in front of you

so if you look here then there is a small pixel will visible to you

why ? because

our box is not in the accurate pixel

so i do

i mean if i open my transform pannel, i want to tell you a small (important) thing

see here the width size is

not an accurate pixel

let me zoom in for you 842.958 points

and height is

553.958 points

so accurate pixels and you know that pixels are very small

and if you put this in half value then it will show some blurry effects

try to

make your work's value in accurate number

like i

see

i am removing this decimal values

or you can do this in another way also

this is available only in cc

i mean cc 2017

go in object and

make pixel perfect

when i clicked here

see it removed the decimal values completely

see it carefully all decimal places are removed from here

this feature is available in object menu

make pixel perfect

one more thing i am doing here is i am taking my artboard tool again

so our artboard will also become pixel perfect

now when i will save this

it will be 100 % accurate and no extra area in the edges

so definitely i want to tell you

how to save files and this things

definitely this 5 minutes i will provide you

later and

i will record today but i will publish it later

anyways

i believe

i hope you got understand about this art board features

which are very useful

and art board tool it is not necessary that you have to take copy only

if you want then you can also make free handed like this

you can make your artboard

wherever you want

you can make as many numbers of art board as you want

you can also name them

now my artboard's name showing names which is not proper

as i made and deleted many artboards

so

counter was going on

see now this is 8,9,10,11

and if you see this is 3 and this is one

so irregular thing are going on

that's why artbaord naes are given here so you can change artboards name

and you can adjust according to your like

and no.2 if you want to delete this artboards

then select your artboard

there are two ways of it

press cross button of your artboard

then your artwork will be deleted or select the artboard which you want to delete

and here is your artboard delete button

so from here also you can delete your artboard ,

if you want to take a new art baord

then this is the button click here and the artbaord will come in the same size of that artboard

which was selected and it will look like this i mean artboard linked with your mouse

and wherever you will click , it will create artboard there
